NEW CLIENTS

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. Here's what to expect.

How to Get Started

  • Read this page — get a feel for what to expect.
  • Check whether you’d like to access Medicare rebates (if so, visit your GP first for a Mental Health Treatment Plan — see Fees & Medicare for details).
  • Book your first appointment using the booking link below, or send an enquiry email if you’d like to ask a question first.
  • You’ll receive a Client Information & Consent Pack via email. Please read it and complete the forms before your first session.
  • At your first session, we’ll go at your pace — there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to.

What Happens in the First Session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about:

  • What has brought you to therapy at this point in time
  • What you’re hoping to get from the process
  • Your background — as much or as little as feels comfortable
  • How I work and what you can expect from sessions
  • Any questions you have about the process

By the end of the first session, we’ll have a clearer sense of what you’re working toward and whether working together feels like a good fit.

Telehealth — What Do I Need?

  • A device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone)
  • A stable internet connection
  • A private, comfortable space where you won’t be overheard
  • A pair of headphones can help with sound quality and privacy
  • The Halaxy telehealth link will be sent to you before your session — no app download required for most devices

If you are unfamiliar with telehealth, I’ll walk you through it at the start of our first appointment. There’s no tech experience required.

Halaxy is the secure Australian-based practice management platform I use for booking, payments, telehealth video sessions, and Medicare claiming. You don’t need to download anything — just click the link I send you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral to book?

No — you can book as a private client without a referral. A referral from your GP (Mental Health Treatment Plan) is only needed if you want to access Medicare rebates.

Sessions are 50 minutes. This is the standard session length for both Medicare and private sessions.

Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is equally effective as in-person therapy for most presentations. Many clients also find it easier to attend sessions from home — particularly those managing ADHD, anxiety, or busy schedules.

That’s completely normal. You’re welcome to send an enquiry email with any questions before booking. There’s no obligation, and one session doesn’t commit you to anything.

My practice is not a crisis service and I cannot guarantee same-day appointments. If you are in crisis or immediate danger, please contact:

This depends on your needs and preferences. Many clients start fortnightly, then move to monthly as they make progress. We’ll work out the right rhythm together.

Yes. Because all sessions are via telehealth, I can work with clients located anywhere in Australia — provided you are physically in Australia at the time of the session.

For clients aged 15–17, a parent or guardian is required to provide consent before we begin, as a matter of practice policy. However, the content of our sessions remains confidential unless there is a safety concern. We’ll talk through exactly how this works at the start.
